A Presidents Message

As we close out our seventh year and enter our eighth year of operations it is time to reflect on our past successful performances and focus on what EMI Inc. must do to remain competitive in our market. It is rewarding to know that our client list is continuing to grow since our first client, CITGO Asphalt Refining co. retained us to update their energy evaluation models to the present with the addition of ISP Elastomers located in Pt. Neches, TX and Insteel Wire Products Co. located in Sanderson, FL as new clients for demand side services and International Extrusion Corp. located in Waxahachie, TX as a supply side client. I am proud of our client list and the results achieved for clients.

It is even more rewarding to reflect on the recognition that our client, ISP Technologies of Texas City, TX and our firm received this past year from the American Chemistry Council at the International Industrial Energy Conference held in New Orleans in May. ISP Technologies had the honor of being selected as the winner of the ACC’s Responsible Care Energy Efficient Program plant site year with exceptional merit. The selection of our client and our work is proof that TQE is a proven technology that will ensure total control and knowledge of energy and its application.

In the coming business year we will be aggressive in marketing the micro services aspect of our business and growing our alliance partners. With competition coming at us from various sources such as the utility suppliers and distributors, academic avenues and government agencies that are now entering the demand side of the energy management business. Their impact is keenly felt and from our experience they all can provide a value to their intended market but they have significant limits and differences from experienced industrial energy consulting companies. These various competitors all have a limited ability to impact culture change and integrate the various types of energy utilized in all deliverable forms. They do not provide real dynamic baseline models or site specific energy requirement planning. They do not install energy management and monitoring controls and programs, establish efficiency standards, train employees in operations, develop standard operating procedures etc. EMI Inc. is poised to compete in our market by offering all of the various micro services needed for Total Quality Energy control combined with a staff that has vast proven expertise and experience in providing effective micro and macro demand side energy management services.

Lastly but most important I want to recognized our current and former clients and thank them for giving us the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of Total Quality Energy technology.

Client Update

The Total Quality Energy demand side energy management project for Insteel Wire Products is in the final phase and should be completed by August. John Masker is the project manager with Bob Botelho and Randy Klindworth as participating staff.

The TQE demand side energy management project for Keystone Steel & Wire Co. is in the final phase of evaluation and retainer participation. The positive results achieved the first year of evaluation are continuing to show improvement especially in the steam distribution and building management areas.

The TQE demand side energy management project for Criterion Catalysts of Michigan City, IN is in the final year of evaluation and is continuing to achieve good results in electricity and for the steam and natural gas improvement measures.

EMI Inc. has been retained by ISP Technologies Corp. of Texas City, TX to assist their management personnel in maintaining the high efficiencies attained from the TQE project and to develop stronger micro energy metrics with variance response controls.

EMI Inc. was retained by ISP Elastomers Co. of Pt. Neches, TX to conduct a Total Quality Energy analysis of their production areas and current energy monitoring program and metrics. This analysis was conducted by Bob Botelho and Ed Haas included all utilities used in the various production process centers. As a result of this analysis EMI Inc. was further retained to develop additional energy micro and macro metrics, install specific energy improvement programs, establish best practices and standard operating procedures for the power house operations, best practices for brine chiller refrigeration operations and identify additional areas of opportunities for energy efficiency improvement in the process drying operations.
